Bamboo Land!

Well while we were in Hervey Bay we had time to go and visit Bamboo Land. (http://www.bambooland.com.au/index.html) (they ship to Brisbane)

Well worth a visit to see what the bamboo is going to look like in 10 years time before you buy sight unseen! Some varieties are about 3 stories tall so we definatly didnt want them!

We picked 4 we liked for different purposes plus some ginger and some Heliconias which both have beautiful flowers!
Bambusa Guangziensis (Chinese Dwarf) China. 3m x 1cm. An incredibly lush and bush bamboo. Excellent pot plant, small privacy screen or feature.
Schizostachyum sp. "Bambu Eraten'. Java. 5m x 4cm. A nice bushy bamboo with large leaves, used for flute making!
Schizostachyum sp. 'Murray Island'. Australia. 5m x 2.5cm. Tight clumping and erect with large leaves and branchless lower section. Great for privacy screens or as a beautiful feature when planted up against a fence. (to cover our back fence and screen neighbours)
Bambusa Lako (Timor Black). Indonesia. 10m x 8cm. Very attractive. Glossy black culms with green stripes. (in pots outside our bathroom window to screen from future neighbours)
Costus Productus Ginger. 1m. Part shade.
Costus Pulverulentus Ginger (Red Cigar). 1.5m. Part shade.
Bihai x Caribaea cv. Hot Rio Nights Heliconia. 4m.
Pendula cv. Waxy Red Heliconia. 2.5m.
