So had an interesting with the builder (I wont tell you their name) behind us who has been building a specie for sale. His wife rang me to say:
"I just need to arrange payment for the good neighbour fence we’re putting up this week”. I said “What's good neighbour fence?”. She said “Oh it's your standard timber paling fence”. I said “Well we don’t want timber, we want Colorbond." She said “Well you have to pay half the standard fence”. I said “No, we pay for half of what we agree on!”. She said "Well I'll get the builder to phone you and you can put your Colorbond fence up on your side”. I said "Great, you do that, but without a letter stating your intent and providing quotes we don't have to pay for anything!" and she proceeded to tell me "Well we have bought the timber and it's going up this week!"
Stuff her, what a cow! Does she think we're just going to bend over and pay her for something at the drop of a hat we don't want and haven't even seen a quote for?!
We know our rights and we don't have to pay for half of what they want, especially in the way they have done it. I've warned our supervisor what they have done and to expect a fence to go up this week but that it's not ours. Ours will be going up on our side and theirs better not be right on the boundary! GRRR!
End of vent! (sorry)

Yea I am dreading one of these phonecalls aswell - be sure to read up on http://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/LEGISLTN/CURRENT/D/DividfenA53.pdf about the deviding fences act.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
I hear ya!!!! Its hard trying to do the right thing by everyone. Both sides are great where we are, but one side is taking their sweet time on getting back to me re: fence. Its alright from them they aren't living there (still building) and I feel really exposed without a fence. I have told them the fence needs to be done before Xmas - lets see how that goes.

ReplyDeleteOur two neighbours have already put up their fences both in colorbond but in two different colours! They didn't call us to ask us first and just went along and put them up! Only one neighbour rang so we can pay half, which is fair enough as its not a bad colour lol but the other neighbour hasn't called us so hopefully he doesn't! I guess we can always paint the fence afterwards so its all good!!
